Description of tiffany technology illustrated by a lamp.
A full mould (lampshade) has to be built at first over which the individual glass parts are moulded. The individual template parts are cut from card-board by means of the cutting sample.
Following the selection of the appropriate glass types and colours, the template shades are transferred to the glass. This is followed by glass cutting. To this end the surface of the glass is scored by means of a glass cutter. The glass can then be broken by hand or with a pair of pliers.
After cutting the shards (= glass parts) are ground to their final shape. To this end they have to be continuously checked with the other parts in order to ensure perfect fitting. The individual glass parts are then wrapped with copper foil and pressed on well on all sides.
Once all parts have been wrapped with copper foil and reattached to the mould, the seams are soldered (apply flux, solder). Following the removal of the almost complete shade from the mould the soldering seams are finish-soldered from inside and outside.
Finally the seams are treated with suitable patina (the shade must be thoroughly cleaned beforehand) and cleaned once again. The lamp-shade is now ready.
